Creationists

For those who are still trying to weasle their theology into the science class, I have a few questions that no Creationist has dared to answer so far:

What type of Creationism should we teach? All of them? Shall we teach Young Earth Creationism, Old Earth Creationism, Gap Creationism, Day-Age Creationism, Progressive Creationism, Intelligent Design Creationism, Evolutionary Creationism, and Theistic Creationism?

I'll assume that you want the science teacher to also include lessons on the Slain Monster story from Sumeria-Babylonia, the Primordial Parents story from the Cook Islanders and the Egyptians, the Cosmic Egg story from Japan, Samoa, Persia, and China, the Spoken Edict story from the Mayans, and the Sea Creation stories from the Burmese, Choctaw Indians, and the Icelanders.

After all, by using the phrase "equal time", you really mean "equal time", right? You weren't being dishonest, were you?

When do you suppose the science teacher will have time to actually teach some science in science class?

Scientific theories aren't accepted in the scientific community via whining or political lobbying. By not being able or willing to grasp this, you demonstrate why you have no business whatsoever in discussing what is taught in a science class in the first place, so show some dignity, if not honesty, and come back when you at least get the basics.

Gospel Music

I'm willing to bet that God himself can barely stand Gospel music, and likely rates it barely above country music.

God on religious music:
"Yes, yes, I'm an amazing, all-powerful, totally perfect being, and you're singing about how I'm such an amazing, all-powerful, totally perfect being. I know! For cripes sake, give it a rest. Get creative, will ya. Do you not like cars or girls? Not even a little bit? Glorify me that way. I created blondes, and I created the guys who created Corvettes. Oh my God... er.. me, but it's annoying. The first few hundred years were tolerable, but the novelty is long gone, folks! Imagine if someone sang "Happy Birthday" to you every day of you life. I'm warning you... knock it off... or else! Can you say "Flood"?"

What do you want from me?

I'm not sure what to do when people tell me to "Support Our Troops". It's a cliche that has no specific meaning - at least no meaning that I can put my finger on. This is an American phrase that is getting a lot of use up here.

Recently, we've been told to wear red at work on Fridays to show our support for our soldiers. The problem is, there are no soldiers at my workplace. How will they know? ... and what is it they really want from me? While my support for the war in Afghanistan is something less than 100%, and I'm certainly not alone on this, I don't know anyone who blames the soldiers for the war.

What would a lack of support for our soldiers look like? I've never seen or heard of anyone actively not supporting our troops, outside of some stories I've heard about that were set in the early 1970's at an airport in California.

I'm already financially supporting our soldiers, but if they want me specifically to buy them bullets and helmets, as a donation, I'm gonna have to pass.

Is "Support Our Troops" a euphemism for "Support Our War"? I hope not. Perhaps "Support the Friends & Families of our Soldiers" would make more sense?

Why the free pass?

I just saw, again, a program re-aired on CBC's The Fifth Estate on Benny Hinn and his "ministry". I'm wondering why he's allowed to continue to dupe vulnerable people.

If I convinced an elderly couple that I was their great-grandson, and then convinced them to give me money based upon the premise that we were related, I'd be wanted by the police right now. If I did that to, say, 20,000 people every week, I'd be Public Enemy #1, and rightly so.

Why the free pass for faith healers?

Should the government ensure that citizens, especially vulnerable ones, be protected? Does the government have a responsibility to look out for people, or should they just let natural selection take it's course?

Our government knows that psychics and mediums are con men/women. They must display warning signs - "for entertainment purposes" - whenever they're operating. Yet guys like Hinn are a far bigger threat. They're not just taking your money because you were too stupid or naive to realize that they can't do what they say they can, as in the case of a psychic. They can convince people to not only give up their money, but to give up sound medical advice, or even medical treatments.

Why the imbalance? At first I thought it was simply an example of religion getting a free pass, but I think it's bigger than that. It must be; it's Christians who are the victims. So I'd love to know: who the heck is protecting such people with special "above the law" privileges, and why?

Why would George Bush...

...need a general anasthetic for a colonoscopy?

Were they concerned that he might move about too much when the scope's up there, increasing the risk of brain damage?

Would it make a detectable difference?

I don't see the difference... there's no difference...

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Satan character in the bible and this guy's god?

Please?

Are you shitting me?

"Alberta will soon have a museum filled with "scientific evidence" that the flood in the Book of Genesis and other biblical events actually happened, and that people walked the Earth at the same time as dinosaurs."

Should maybe sue his ass off the minute he opens his doors over false advertising.

"Nibourg, a 46-year-old oilfield service worker, has been planning, building and preparing the museum for four years.
He put his own money and sweat into the facility, building it himself with no public funding, although he did get a few private donations.
"We're not trying to push an agenda," he said Wednesday."

No agenda, eh? He must think we're really stupid. Then again, considering his usual target audience....

"We just think that people should see both sides of everything."

He's either an imbecil or an incredibly arrogant prick. There's more than two sides to the question of Creation. I'm doubting he'll be putting forth any of the equally "scientific" facts from Native American folklore. He'll probably completely ignore the Norsemen's take on it, too.

Norris gets Chucked

Getting your ass kicked isn't just a Kirk Cameron thing. Seems any celebrity is free to make an ass of themselves these days...

One Blogger's refutation of painful drivel spouted from Norris:

More Norris Nonsense

Jesus tap-dancing Christ, Chuck! Stick to acting!

At least you only kinda sucked at that.

The world is a little brighter now...

After pissing god off over an undisclosed issue, Falwell was finally struck dead after years of being a self-described "tool of God".

He was only half right.

"Jerry Falwell was instrumental in galvanizing millions of American evangelicals into an intolerant, sectarian and authoritarian political movement. Gays, women, secularists, civil-libertarians and other groups who did not fit into his plan to construct 'One Nation Under God' were stigmatized and attacked. Civil liberties were in jeopardy." ~ Ellen Johnson, president of American Atheists.

Yep. Good riddiance, asshole.

It's about time...

Pastor held responsible for faith healing gone wrong (as if they ever go right).

Darlene Bishop Sued for Wrongful Death and Financial Improprieties

This is great, and I hope it's a sign of things to come. It's about time that we start holding scam artists like faith healers responsible for the damage they do. Criminals should be treated as such, regardless of their self-imposed titles.

Granted, this evil twat went above and beyond the call of flim-flam, but the more attention and exposure such stories get, the more informed and protected society will become.

Ever Heard of Cancer?

CTV.ca | W-FIVE: Dr. Hope

You or someone you love has, or will have, cancer.

Because of this harsh truth, you really need to check out this W5 episode. It demonstrates what's terribly wrong with the health system we usually view as being superior to that of other countries. But there's little the government will do to protect those among us who are most vulnerable from crooks who get very rich off of your family member's tumor. As you already know, if you're a faith healer you're worse than a piece of shit, but you have plenty of company.

Find someone you care about and watch the video segments together.

Christian Values

AP NewsBreak: Haggard Leaves Colorado | The Huffington Post

As part of his severance package from New Life Church, a 14,000-member congregation he started in his basement, Haggard agreed to leave Colorado Springs, a city he helped make an evangelical center.

It's not irony. It's called Democracy, stupid. You know, that thing you like when it doesn't run counter to your mythology which is, ironically, centered around an evil dictator.

A Clash of Self-Inflicted Stupidity

Try to keep your turds from banging into each other.

Ok, I know I don't have to mention that if you're an evangelical Christian, you're head's at least half-way up your ass, or that of someone else, but usually the spiritually retarded self-made morons among us are consistent in how they wallow, and invite us to wallow, in their bullshit.

Sometimes their beliefs not only collide with reality, but with their own idiocy. Look at the link below. It's an attempt to discredit Al Gore and global warming. These guys refer to it as a "hoax". And why is it a "hoax". Because Rep. Joe Barton (R-Texas) - gee, this will be good - cited 600,000-year-old scientific evidence that Gore's carbon dioxide claims are false. Evidence from 600,000 years ago???? Wait a minute! These are the idiots who claim that the planet is only 6,000 years old! How the hell can you cite "evidence" that's 594,000 years older that the planet?

I think it's safe to say that most evangelicals won't notice the gaff, or will at least conveniently overlook it.

A Wishful-thinking Life

God Debate: Sam Harris vs. Rick Warren - Newsweek Beliefs - MSNBC.com

Here is an interesting debate between two well-known men who are on opposite sides of the God question. If this is typical Warren, then I'm glad I never wasted my time (or money) reading his book. Forget about his straw-men arguments, his appeal-to-popularity plea, and other numerous logical fallacies. He actually ended the discussion with Pascal's Wager!

Skill-testing questions

How are those not discriminatory? You win a contest and you have to answer a "skill-testing question". Why?

What if a developmentally challenged individual won? Maybe a guy who could barely count to 20. He has to answer a 4 part skill-testing math question? He has no skills in math. He's a retarded guy eating a fucking bag of potato chips. What more do you want from the guy? What was the point of the promo? To boost the nation's math skills or to sell more chips?

Another free pass for religion

Religion has been given a free pass again. If I wilfully failed to provide my babies the necessities of life, be it water or medical attention, I'd be lynched by a mob. But if I'm a Jehovah's Witness, I'm the one who deserves an apology. That's right. Keeping my children alive is infringing on my rights (the babies don't have rights, right?)

If I wanted to end the pain and suffering of my wife, who had been semi-comatose for quite awhile, I'd need body guards after I pulled the plug. Religious zealots and other opportunistic nuts would ensure that there'd be few other stories on the evening news. Religious leaders would release statements and the topic would be discussed in a session of parliament.

Where those groups of organized insanity are now, I have no idea. Where's the "right-to-life" groups with their signs? I guess some people simply feel that one's rights begin at conception and end at birth.

Brita Water Filters

Dumb Marketing Department: Brita has a commercial out showing a glass of unfiltered water on a counter. Off-camera, someone flushes the toilet, and the water in the glass imitates water in a flushed toilet bowl. The point they're trying to make is that the water in the tap you use for drinking water comes from the same water source as the water in your toilet. So what? The analogy doesn't work. It doesn't even come close. There's no connection at all, unless you're in the habit of routinely pissing in your drinking glasses.
